Car Enthusiast Story

This is my first time publishing any kind of story, so I decided to talk about one of my passion.

I’ve loved cars for as long as I can remember. From playing in the basement with my Hot Wheels, to going at car Expo’s once a month at a local supermarket parking with my father. He is the one that initially introduced me to cars, he’s a seasoned mechanic and loves anything and everything there is about cars.

Although, my dad has a soft side for muscle cars, by the way who doesn’t, he still enjoys seeing the new sports cars every year when we attend the Montreal Auto Show. We someday hope we can attend the Detroit Auto show has it is reputed to be one of the best shows in the world with many exclusives being revealed every year. As a result of the economy, that trip keeps getting delayed year after year. It’s a luxury that we just can’t afford right now, but the day will come and we both know it.

Not being able to afford a sports car never stopped me from admiring them. As a kid, my parents bought me tons of Hot Wheels to play with, most of them are still in near-mint condition. I cherished them so much, that my parents taught I didn’t like them, because they didn’t show any wear and tear. Last month, during some much needed cleaning in the basement, we found my old toy chest with a Hot Wheels carrying case in it. 15 years later and these little cars are still intact. One day, I’ll pass those down to my own child, hoping he takes as good care of them as I did. I might have to check on some of the Hot Wheels to see if any of them are worth something.

My Dream Car As A Kid

Dodge Viper Die-Cast

While growing up, I put the Hot Wheels aside and moved on the Die-Cast models. I still remember when I bought my first red Dodge Viper die-cast, with the money I made mowing lawns at my house for a month. Oh how great that car looked on the middle shelf of my bookcase, until it rolled and took a 4 foot dive to hit the floor. A broken mirror and a loose windshield later, it still looks good, although it’s now in the basement, probably covered with dust. I managed to acquire one of each of my favorite car brands. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz and even a cheap Aston Martin I bought at a corner store for $5.Now that my bookcase, as actual books in it, they were all sent to the basement to gather up dust. One day I’ll find a way to display them again, probably in a play room or in a glass case in an office.

Then the PlayStation came into my life, and Gran Turismo was my game of choice, until Gran Turismo 2 came out. From completing the licenses to racing for hours with supercars, those games consumed a lot of hours of my life. Then PS2 with Gran Turismo 3, with unrivaled graphics and game play, this game was the bomb. Then another car franchise saw the day, Need For Speed. This was all during the hype of the first Fast & Furious movie. Modified cars mixed with hip-hop music and ultra fast cars, what could a teenage ask for more? Now, I have the PS3 and Gran Turismo 5 is out, I still haven’t bought it because I know that the game would take me away from important stuff, like having a social life. But all the video game stuff is for another sub that will come soon.

Now it’s time for the real cars. Being a university student, most of my income goes to pay for school or extra curricular activities. So affording anything worth mentioning is out of the question. I won’t lie, I’m jealous of the people my age driving cars like Audi’s and BMW’s, but I’m working towards completing my degree and hopefully after I’ll be able to afford something similar. But for the moment a car that has a good sound system and decent gas mileage will do, also it beats taking the bus, especially in the summer when it gets crowded.

I’ll finish this little short story by letting you know what kind of car I would like, at least something possible for the common mortal. If I was going to buy a Truck it would be between a Range Rover and a F150 Harley Davidson, and for a car, probably a Audi S4, Subaru WRX STi or a Mitsubishi Evo10, oh and I forgot, they would all be in black, which is my favorite color, if black is a color or not.

Thank you, I hope everyone enjoyed this little story. If anyone relates to this please share if you feel like doing so.
